Float Glass
Float glass is soda-lime glass, made by floating molten glass on a bed of molten tin. This method gives the sheet uniform thickness and very flat, smooth surfaces. It is usually color neutral and highly transparent, but tints are possible, too. Float glass is characterized by great surface hardness, but is very fragile and UV transmitting. Tempered safety glass and laminated safety glass are special forms of float glass that provide enhanced mechanical and chemical resistance.
KEY PROPERTIES OF FLOAT GLASS:-
ï‚· High degree of light transmission
ï‚· Ability to be produced in a range of colors.
ï‚· Ability to be produced in a range of opacities.
ï‚· Good chemical inertness.
ï‚· Attacked by hydrofluoric (HF) acid.
